Charge Your USB Devices With Audio?

The one problem with traveling by air, at least in the US, is that most of the airlines haven't put any sort of power jacks into the seat. You might get lucky on a cross-country flight, but on short-hop flights like I usually take, you're lucky if they give you peanuts, let alone power.

Enter the Inflight Power Recharger. It uses something that's guaranteed to be in every seat: the headset jack. How does this work? Apparently, if you find a really loud channel and turn the audio system up all the way, and you let it sit for a while, there will be enough power to charge devices that have a USB charging cable.

The secret? capacitors, which store the energy captured from the audio system and pumps it out through the USB port. It takes a few minutes to store up enough energy to actually charge anything. To help keep things consistent, you can also seed the device with 2 AAA batteries.

I recorded a video demonstrating how this device works.
