Cell Phones Not Likely to be Allowed on US Airlines Soon

According to PC World, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is pushing the FCC to drop the investigation into the feasibility of allowing cell phones on airline flights, due to the thousands of complaints sent in by people across the country in response the FCC's opening of the investigation in 2004. In other words: people don't want to hear other people's phone conversations any more than they have to. As someone who's been on my fair share of loud flights, I can't really blame the complainers; even with things like noise-canceling headphones, no one wants to sit next to someone straining to be heard on a cell phone by talking as loud as possible.
