Bluetooth Better on a Mac - The Bluetooth WeblogBeing a recent convert
to the world of the mac, I have to agree with this. Setting up bluetooth was not only easy, but the level of integration I got was astounding.I bought an iMac - one of the options listed is an internal bluetooth module, so that's what I asked for.
Unfortunately, it turns out that in order to get this, you need to request the quote, which in turn gets requested of Apple in the US. Once it gets back to you, you have to accept the quote within 2 days, then the machine will be built and shipped.
Total time (estimated): about 6 weeks.
Screw that, I got a USB bluetooth module.
Anyhow, so I got the machine, turned it on, did all the new machine stuff, all good. I then plugged in the bluetooth module. It recognised almost instantly, and asked if I wanted to look for devices to connect to. Well, yes, I did... that's the whole point, right?
It detected my SE T610, and after a reallly nice little "are you sure you want to do this, prove it" type deal, I was connected. Setting up iSync to bring across my contacts list, and my calendar and todo list was almost trivial - it Just Worked.
What really impressed me, however, was gettiing an SMS text message 5 minutes later, and having it appear on-screen on the iMac... and being able to respond to it.
Absolutely astounding.
I've also got an application called "Clicker" from Salling.com that makes good use of bluetooth on the mac - but a proper review of that will follow once I've finished writing it.
