Blockbuster Joins the Set-Top Gang

Blockbuster Joins the Set-Top Gang

If Video on Demand (VOD) is your cup of tea, then blockbuster has good news for you. Blockbuster has, much like Netflix, Xbox 360, and a half dozen other people, released a Set-Top video player to the masses. The Blockbuster MediaPoint, supplied by 2Wire, is available now and has the ability to stream video straight to your TV.

Not to be confused with the Netflix Roku, the MediaPoint is available for $99 and will include 25 prepaid video rentals. The good news is that users will not be required to sign up for a monthly DVD by mail plan. As for the specifics, you will have access to approximately 2000 videos, $1.99 video rentals, and WIFI connectivity. Once a movie is rented, you have 30 days available to start a movie and 24 hours to complete a movie once it has been started.

With digital media delivery on my Kindle, music through iTunes, and VOD from blockbuster, I wonder if I will ever buy physical media again. If Pizza Palace ever creates a pizza printer, I swear I will never wear pants or leave my house again.
