Black and Decker VPX Starter Kit Review
black and deckerlinks had sent me a review unit of their VPX System-multiple power tools that use the same battery. I wrote about the system previously, but I have some real-world experience to share. Did it hold up to it's promise? Are the tools good? Details after the jump.

Three tools are included the package: a flashlight, a drill/screwdriver, and a cut saw. The flashlight was surprisingly bright and will last at least four hours on a fully charged battery. The screwdriver was fairly powerful-almost too powerful as it doesn't seem to know when to stop if you don't. The cut saw was able to make quick work of some small boards I fed it.

When I first got the package, I was explaining the starter kit to my wife. She liked the idea, but her first observation was important: you mean all those tools have to share one battery, as in there's only one battery included in the package? Yes, she's right. Only one battery and three tools.

And the tools themselves? Adequate, but lacking accessories, such as additional drill/screwdriver bits and additional blades for the cut saw.

According to a different review of this product I read, if you buy the tools outside of the starter pack, you get the accessories. So it's not like they don't have the accessories, they just don't include them in the starter pack.

I still think this is a nice system concept, but I think the starter pack could use a bit more. You're better off buying the tools and chargers you need separately. The starter pack just doesn't cut it for my tastes.
