Biocase Fingerprint Lock Will Be Well Intentioned Failure
Some uses of technology are well intentioned but destined to fail. Windows Vista, Circuit City, and musical greeting cards are great examples. The Biocase Fingerprint Luggage lock is another well-intentioned product that is more trouble than it is worth. I completely understand the need to keep your luggage safe, and the indestructible aspect of the case is alluring, but I question the biometric lock. I doubt the Department of Homeland Security will appreciate not getting to know what is in your suitcase; they don't take kindly to secrets, and they are picky about bullet-proof, spy stuff.

Granted, the Makers of the biocase, Heys USA, are promoting the Biocase as a carry-on, and it is designed to fit in the overhead compartment. So technically, security shouldn't be a major concern - until it is. Until the TSA cuts your luggage apart with a blow-torch, it will be secured by a biometric fingerprint scanner that can store up to eight fingerprint profiles. The reader and memory are charged via USB and will retain a charge for up to 90 days. With the Biocase, your underwear can be as safe as possible.

I think the Biocase is a great idea, and if Heys USA is right, and the luggage is simply carry-on, it will be a technologically smart way of keeping your items safe, if it ever makes its way into the TSA or Homeland Security claws, you can kiss your luggage goodbye. No word yet on a price, but I doubt it will be cheap.
