Tech News Around The World
by tiago on November 10, 2006

A couple of months ago I talked about Phlash - a little device that when placed on the cellphone camera is suppose to increase the photo's quality by giving the brightness factor, actually it just shoots an instant flash whenever you take a photo. Anyway, that can be one technique used to get better photos, but there is a new player on the market that probably works much better.
The new technology is called PenTile RGBW and has been revealed by Clairvoyante. Their slogan is "twice as bright, half the power" and in case you don't understand it, their mission is to make the cellphone use less battery when taking photos and at the same time provide photos with better quality.
How does it work?
PenTile RGBW technology adds a white subpixel to the conventional mix of red, green and blue subpixels, resulting in a brighter display. Using only one-third the column drivers of RGB Stripe displays, PenTile technology can potentially save component costs and increase LCD yields
