Belkin Surge Protector Takes A Bite out of Energy Vampires
Phantom power is the trickle of energy that every single electrical device consumes, even when it is turned off. For some devices, such as plasma televisions or printers, those "trickles" can be a raging river. Basically, if a device, device charger, or power adapter is warm, it is consuming energy. If you don't like the idea of throwing money away on your gadgets when your not using them, then you need to check out the Belkin Conserve Surge Protector.

The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector looks like a normal, 8 outlet surge protector, but it has a twist. It works with a wireless switch that you can mount on your wall and physically kills all power to the devices when they are not in use. There are 2 outlets that are "always on" for devices like a router or TIVO that you need to be on 24-7. Any other devices such as a TV, Stereo, PS3, or Wii that you turn off can be physically removed from the grid so they stop leeching phantom power.

The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector will be $49.99 when released. I am interested to see how long it would take for the $50 to pay for itself. If you need a new power strip anyway, then this definitely looks like the way to go, but if you are simply interested in saving money or the environment, it might be worth a second look as well.
