Belkin Brings UWB to the States
About a month ago, I blogged about a new Ultra Wide Band (UWB) wireless USB hub from Y-E Data, available in Japan. Well, as of the middle of this month, American consumers will be able to get in on the fun, as Belkin announced yesterday that their new UWB hub, model number F5U301, will be available in December. With speeds of up to 480 Mbps for USB 2.0 devices, 4 ports and a range of 30 feet thanks to the included dongle, the $200 hub seems like it would be perfect for anyone looking to cut down on the number of wires behind their desks (something I thought about yesterday as I did some wire rearranging) or escape from their desks laptop-style while still having access to the USB peripherals they need. I do suddenly wonder if this device will work well with the USB 2.0 speakers that have hit the market recently; could you create whole new home theater arrangements with this hub and a few USB speakers?
