Are Apple and Verizon Sitting in a Tree?

When you are Apple, how do you keep selling iPhones? Seriously, Apple has sold over 21 million iPhones. At some point, they are bound to reach market saturation. Sure, the Apple trick of annual updates will keep some people going back to the store, but honestly, the iPhone 3G hardware is pretty good, and the iPhone 3.0 firmware is excellent. How can they ensure more iPhones hit the streets? Easy – they need a new network, and that looks like what Apple is trying to do. Soon, it is likely that Verizon will be sharing some of the AT&T and Apple love.
This has been rumored before, but those rumors are getting serious. USA Today is reporting that Apple and Verizon are in serious talks to bring the iPhone to Verizon's CDMA market by 2010. I wonder what impact this will have on the iPhone speculated release this summer. Will some people hold off because they might be able to get the iPhone on Verizon in a year? After all, if they commit to AT&T this summer, then they will sign a 2 year contract. I honestly think some folks will hold off to see what the new network has to offer.
Granted, all big cell companies have their issues, but AT&T seems particularly hated by its users. Personally, I have had good luck, but I am a low maintenance user, and I have been with AT&T for many, many years. Is a CDMA iPhone on Verizon what you are looking for are you just fine the way you are?
