Apple iPhone Just Around the Corner?

In about an hour or so, we'll find out whether or not apple really does have a cell phone in the works – and what they're going to call it. 9 AM PST marks the beginning of the keynote speech by Steve Jobs, where the Apple CEO will highlight all of the new Apple products demoed at the show. Rumors have been swirling that the keynote will see the introduction of the iPhone (under a different name – Linksys unveiled a line of VoIP phones called iPhone back in September) and a product that streams video between a Mac or PC and a TV, similar to the way that AirTunes works with stereos.
I know there's plenty of analysis out there about what will happen if Apple does enter the cell phone manufacturing market, but I think that this phone will be a success, even if it adds to the over-saturated market I talked about below, because of the Apple brand name. Yes, the ROKR failed miserably, but the ROKR wasn't an Apple product – it was a poorly executed idea created in partnership with Apple software. An Apple cell phone will avoid pitfalls like no in-phone downloading because Apple seems to always put more design thought into their products – and people will buy the phone because of Apple's reputation for smart products.
