It is no secret that Google is a giant prepared to take over the world. At some point in my life, I expect that I might very well look down and see that I have been bought and will be sporting a "Google brand" tattoo. Until that happens, Google will just have to be content owning half of the internet, a
third of the browsers, and 20% of the cell phones. Yes folks, within the next year, I think nearly every cell phone (if not all smart phones) will be made by Apple, Research in Motion (Blackberry), and Google.
Google's Android mobile operating system is set to
attack be released on a HTC smartphone later this fall, and it will hit the streets for only $199. That means you will be able to get your hands on the
newest touch screen phenomenon for less than most Blackberries and for the same amount as the low-end iPhone. Not only will the HTC Dream, powered by Android be priced cheaply, it will also feature a low cost data plan. Because it is Googled, the HTC Dream is bound to do internet well, and because it is HTC, it will do calls well. It sounds like the iPhone and Blackberry Thunder have some competition.
What google has going for it that Apple does not, is that Android is open sourced, and it will be on many cell phones in the near future. Apple might be selling millions of iPhones, but Android will be on hundreds of handsets. Its market share is bound to be huge. It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out in the near future.
