A Laptop Hans and Franz Would Like
The motto is "Born to be rugged." The company is called Durabook and they feature laptops with decent-looking specs and military-sounding names like D14RA and N15RI. What's so special about these particular laptops? Well, that motto isn't just some fancy words: the Durabook laptops are built to stand up to damage from liquids, being dropped, stepped on, crushed...the sort of wear and tear you'd expect to encounter in high physical stress computing environments (like the battlefield or maybe something safer, like a construction site) where a normal laptop from Dell or Gateway would be out of its element.

To stay secure, Durabooks use magnesiumlinks alloy cases that are supposedly 20 times stronger than plastic, have internal shielding for vital components and set hard drives and LCD displays in rubber to absorb shocks. The whole system is drop-tested, spill-tested and meets a number of impressive-looking certifications in the US and Europe. The Durabook is pretty cheap, too for the protection you get: about $1200.
