$99 Netbook Finally a Reality

After years of rumors and speculation, the $99 netbook finally arrives. Featuring a 400 MHz processor, 256 MB DDR, 2 GB NAND-flash, a 7 inch high-resolution TFT (800 x 480 pixels) screen, LAN: 10/100M Ethernet Access, WIFI: IEEE 802.11 b/g, a QWERTY 86 key keyboard, mouse and touch pad.

As one might expect for the price point, the unit comes equipped running Linux (but Windows versions will be available for an upcharge).

Interestingly enough, Cherrypal states that they reserve the right to ship models with larger screen sizes (8.9" or 10.2") and faster processors (up to 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR) and even a 20 GB Hard Drive. There is no choice of color. I suppose for $99, any such upgrades are nothing to complain about.

The laptop can be ordered directly from the company here.
