500 Miles Off A 5 Minute Charge

500 Miles Off A 5 Minute Charge

Five minutes of electrical juice translates into 500 miles of driving. Sound too good to be true? That's what EEStor, an Austin, Texas company is claiming their patented technology can do.

The biggest problem with electric cars to date has been the ability to store the electricity to power the car. Even Hybrid cars like the Toyota prius employ many large lead-acid batteries. Not only do those batteries weigh a lot, they take a long time to charge and are an environmental disaster waiting to happen.

EEStor's system is essentially an ultracapacitor, a battery-like device that stores and releases energy quickly. Capacitors have been around since 1745, but they have never been able to store and release the amount of energy necessary to power, say, a mobile phone, much less a car.

However, if EEStor's technology is what they say it is, this will change everything in the world of electronics.
